Hello and welcome to Class 5!
Our Class Teacher is Mrs Webster. Other adults who work in the class are Mrs Hussain and Mrs Khan. Mrs Hussain will teach us on a Monday.
We are looking forward to a fantastic year.
Please have a look at our newsletter to see what we will be learning this term.
PE
P.E is on Monday. This term we will have the PE coach for our PE lessons. Please ensure children bring their PE kits in a small drawstring bag. All children must wear a white T-shirt, black shorts/ leggings/ tracksuit bottoms and pumps/ trainers.
Homework, spellings & reading
Every Friday, your child will be set English and Maths tasks to complete for homework for the following Thursday. Tasks will be set on Education city or sometimes in paper form. The children will have their logins in their reading records and will be shown how to access it. I will be able to see their scores and see what they have struggled with. The homework given will focus on skills taught that week in English and Maths
Children will also be given a set of spellings on a Monday to learn in their blue spelling books each week. We will focus on 1 rule for 4 weeks. Each week they will be given 6-8 words from the rule and 2-3 words that are statuary spellings that they should know by the end of Year 5 and 6. For homework, children must look up the definition, understand the spelling rule and its exceptions and be able use the word in a sentence correctly. On Spelling frame, spellings tests will be set, and children must complete at least 4 tests by the following Monday. I will be able to see their scores online and which words they have struggled with. Blue spelling books need to be handed in every Monday to Mrs Hussain and Mrs Khan.
Also, each half term pupils will be given a project homework book with different activities for you and your child to choose from. These projects must be completed to Year 5 standard and handed in as they are completed or at the end of the half term.
Homework should be completed by the following Thursday. If your child has any difficulties with their homework, then they can bring it to Homework Club which is held every day during school at break times. A teacher will be available to help.
Your child will also bring a reading book home set at their reading level. This should be brought back to school every day. Please try to read with your child each evening and discuss the book with them by asking questions. This will really help them move up book bands and improve their comprehension skills. Please write a comment in their reading record book. Reading records will be checked every Tuesday.
